Foundational Approach to Growth & Change (My Why)

James Whitfield has spent eleven years helping couples and families do the difficult, rewarding work of staying connected — or finding their way back to each other.

He works with couples navigating conflict, communication breakdowns, major transitions (new baby, career change, relocation), infidelity recovery, and the quiet drift that can happen even in loving partnerships. His family work includes blended families, parent-child relationship repair, and families supporting a member through a mental health challenge.

James is a Level II Gottman Method trained therapist and draws on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Systems Theory. His sessions tend to be structured and skills-focused — clients leave each session with something concrete they can practice before the next one.

He is currently on a waitlist for new clients due to high demand. Couples and families are encouraged to join the waitlist; James personally reviews each inquiry and prioritizes based on fit and urgency.

James lives with his husband and their two kids, and he brings his own experience of what it takes to keep a relationship intentional over the long haul.
