Foundational Approach to Growth & Change (My Why)

Dr. Amara Osei is a licensed psychologist who has spent 14 years working at the intersection of clinical practice and cultural humility. Born in Ghana and raised between Accra and London before settling in the United States, she brings a deeply personal understanding of what it means to straddle multiple worlds — and the invisible weight that can come with it.

Amara specializes in working with individuals who feel stuck: stuck in patterns that no longer serve them, stuck between who they were raised to be and who they actually are, or stuck at a crossroads where therapy itself feels unfamiliar or even taboo. Her approach is warm, curious, and unhurried. She believes that understanding why something hurts is just as important as learning how to feel better.

Her clinical work draws on Psychodynamic therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Attachment-Based frameworks. She is also trained in culturally adapted CBT and has published research on therapeutic fit for clients from collectivist backgrounds.

When she is not in session, Amara mentors early-career clinicians of color and is completing a book on culturally humble therapeutic practice.
